George Mason University President Gregory Washington was the featured speaker at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., Scholarship Ceremony on June 20. Washington is on the Economic Club’s board of directors.

Each year, Economic Club Chairman David M. Rubenstein awards college scholarships to students from D.C. public schools. Fifty honorees this year each received $20,000 scholarships, and four of those students are headed to George Mason, including China Jones-Burgess (left) and Morgan Shirley (right). Not pictured are Melissa Ivy and Ayrrika James who also will be attending Mason this fall.

In 16 years, Rubenstein has awarded 761 scholarships, totaling nearly $12 million. Rubenstein spoke at George Mason’s Spring Commencement in 2014.
