Your final semester at Mason is going to go faster than you expect. Make sure you complete all the steps required so your graduation goes smoothly. We'll keep adding information as it becomes available, so check back regularly!
Get the Paperwork Done
Graduation applications were due September 29, 2024. If you missed this deadline, you'll need to complete a late graduation application form. Certain processes may be delayed if you apply late.
You must apply to graduate to be eligible to claim ceremony tickets or receive graduation communications.
Get Your Regalia!
Regalia is available for order available online and in person at the George Mason Bookstore at the Fairfax Campus and Mason Square while in stock. Information on ordering caps, gowns, stoles, cords, announcements, diploma frames, and more is available on our Caps, Gowns, and More page.
Save the Date
Tickets will be required for both Commencement and degree celebration ceremonies. You must apply to graduate to be eligible to claim your tickets or receive graduation communications.
Bachelor and Master Winter Graduates were sent two emails from gmuevent@gmu.edu via MarchingOrder with the subject line "Register for your Ceremony." These emails will provide instructions on how to register and claim your guest tickets for graduation.
- One email is for the University-wide Winter Commencement.
- One email is for the Degree Celebration that includes your school/college.
You are welcome to attend either one or both ceremonies.
Doctoral Graduates were sent an email with specific instructions for tickets and Commencement ceremony information.

What is Commencement?
University Commencement is the official graduation ceremony including degree conferral by President Washington, remarks by the both the presidential invited guest speaker and the selected Class of 2024 student speaker, with music provided by Doc Nix and the Green Machine. All Mason winter graduates are invited to attend. All Doctoral students will be recognized and hooded individually at the Commencement Ceremony. Other graduates will be asked to stand as a group when their major is called for recognition.

What are Degree Celebrations?
Separate Degree Celebrations honor the different schools' and colleges' Bachelors and Masters graduates. These graduates are individually recognized and photographed as they cross the stage. The events also featured guest speakers from similar fields. Doctoral graduates are not recognized at Degree Celebrations; they are recognized at Commencement.
If you are a George Mason graduate from a previous semester looking to participate in a winter graduation ceremony, please email gmuevent@gmu.edu for guidance.
Please Note
Security measures will be in place at all ceremonies.
Graduates will need their Grad Pass from MarchingOrder to be admitted.
All graduates and guests will go through weapons detection systems.

Working on a thesis or dissertation?
In order to be eligible to graduate under the Winter 2024 Semester, all Master's students writing theses and all Doctoral students writing dissertations must adhere to specific deadlines.
