About This Course

What is the role of business in creating positive social change? In this class, we will examine how businesses can be both profitable and kind to people and the planet. We will look at both large and small companies to understand how they are achieving economic, social, and environmental sustainability.  An important aspect of the course will be examination of some companies who are making great efforts to protect the environment, as the dangers of global warming are becoming ever more evident.

Course Highlights

  • Examination of several large and well know companies involved in moving toward sustainability, including Nike, Ikea, ING, Nestle, BMW, and LG.
  • Examination of new companies that were conceptualized as circular economy companies and operated sustainably from inception.  
  • Course will include several guest speakers from industry.

*BUS 491 is a multidisciplinary course open to students of all majors. No prerequisites required. Credits: 3
